A new program referred to as Juror Court has begun in the Maricopa County Superior Court. The program is an effort to “get-tough” on jurors who fail to appear after they have received a jury summons. According to Jury Office statistics, the appearance rate for jury duty is approximately only 44 percent. Jurors who fail to appear are subject to fines and may be ordered to reappear. The Juror Court is planning to hold hearings at least 4 times a year with the next hearing scheduled for July 19 at 1:30 pm in the East Court Building.
