Gideon v. Wainwright 50th Anniversary

This past Monday, March 18, marked the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case Gideon v. Wainwright.  The 1963 decision established an indigent criminal defendant’s right to appointed counsel in state criminal court cases.  The decision was cited as an indigent criminal defendant’s right based on the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
